The Order of Merit was created in honor of the Prince's altruism. Sheikh Antonios, with his priceless contributions to the Royal House of Ghassan until his premature death in 1971. Some of his known contributions were the free water to 48 villages in Lebanon (still serving around 200,000 people today) and the advocacy to create a law to give free dialysis to every Lebanese citizen, which is also still valid today.
Disclaimer: The Ghassanids are one of the first Christian knights in history but weren’t organized in orders ‘per se’. Therefore, although the Royal House of Ghassan has ancient authority as pioneers’ Christian knights it doesn’t claim any legatary connection with any historical order of chivalry or merit.
